International Day of Older Persons 2012
International Day of Older Persons acknowledges the critical role older people play in the society.
In our fast ageing world, older people increasingly play a critical role – through volunteer work, transmitting experience and knowledge, helping their families with caring responsibilities and increasing their participation in the paid labour force. Such contributions to development can only be ensured if older persons enjoy adequate levels of health, for which appropriate policies need to be in place.

World Humanitarian Day 2012
In an effort to raise public awareness of humanitarian assistance, the General Assembly has designated 19 August as World Humanitarian Day. The day honours those who have lost their lives in humanitarian service and those who continue to bring assistance and relief to millions. It also seeks to draw attention to humanitarian needs worldwide and to explain what humanitarian aid work entails.
This year’s campaign "I Was Here" is about making your mark by doing something good, somewhere, for someone else.
