Big data analysis shows that Internet searches related to violence against women and help-seeking rose significantly during COVID-19 lockdowns in eight Asian countries, buttressing evidence of the particular dangers faced by women confined to homes or restricted in their movements. In response, government and private service providers should boost their online reach and engagement with survivors of violence.
Prevalence Rates, Trends and Disparities in Intimate Partner Violence: Power of Data in the IPV Geospatial Dashboard
Using data from the UNFPA IPV dashboard (which offers the highest data coverage of any related source), this report features levels, trends and sociodemographic and geographic disparities, within and across countries, in intimate partner violence in the past 12 months, among ever-partnered women. The country case studies are a supplement to the report Young People and the Law: Laws and Policies Impacting Young People’s Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in the Asia-Pacific Region: 2020 Update, which provides a broad overview of whether countries in the Asia and Pacific region recognize the evolving capacities of adolescents in their laws and policies on the age of access to contraceptives, abortion services where legal, HIV testing services, and age of consent to sex.
Guidelines on responsible representation and reporting of violence against women and violence against children
These guidelines were developed by UNFPA, UNICEF and UN Women in the Asia-Pacific region as an output of a joint working group to enhance and prioritise messaging and communications on violence against women and violence against children amid and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dignity and Disasters
This collection of photographs takes us into some of the communities where disasters are being most acutely felt. From Bangladesh to Samoa, women are taking an active role in preparing for emergencies. By speaking up and proactively taking action, they’re helping governments and civil society plan ahead and ensure crucial supplies are on hand to help women maintain their dignity, even when disasters disrupt their lives.
Summary report of the evaluation of the Regional Prepositioning Initiative
UNFPA’s Regional Prepositioning Initiative has been a game-changer in supporting humanitarian preparedness across the Asia-Pacific region. Between 2016-2020 in Phase II of the initiative, more than 140,000 direct beneficiaries affected by 63 emergencies in 15 countries received over $1.6 million dollars worth of life-saving sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence supplies (updated figures as of November 2020).
