This report focuses on the rapid demographic change that has taken place in Thailand during the last three to four decades, leading to the country becoming the most 'aged' in South East Asia – next only to Singapore. This is explained by the significant declines in fertility (from 6.4 to 1.8) and improvements in longevity (from 52 to 71 years) during the second half of the 20th century.

Asia and the Pacific Regional Forum on Strengthening Partnerships with Faith-Based Organisations in Addressing ICPD

UNFPA country offices in Asia and the Pacific region and faith-based organizations came together for a two-day consultation to assess the impact of their partnership in the areas of maternal health, gender equality, migration and youth welfare. Together with faith-based organizations, the consultation presented a unique opportunity to reflect on the progress towards achieving critical Millennium Development Goal (MDG) targets. Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in Asia (RHIYA) 2007

Through the EU/UNFPA Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in Asia (RHIYA), the European Commission and UNFPA have partnered with seven national governments and civil society organizations to respond to the significant challenge of addressing the rights of young people to education and sexual and reproductive health (SRH). RHIYA has pioneered unique approaches and deployed a range of innovative activities to create opportunities for young people to protect their SRH, so that they may meet their full potential.
