As the climate crisis intensifies across Asia, the Pacific, and the world, UNFPA together with the Australian Government, is calling for increased investments in upholding the safety and sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls.

Bangladesh is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world. Experts believe that the number and intensity of cyclones will increase with global warming, which will also increase the amount of rain. Many people, especially women and children, have lost their lives and their houses to cyclones and are still bearing the scars.

The rising sea levels in the country is also causing salt intrusion into coastal areas. Due to cyclones and floods, salt water enters the agricultural land by breaking or overflowing the dam, increasing the salinity of the land and disrupting the normal production capacity. As a result of the brackish water, women in these areas suffer from various uterine diseases, which affect their sexual and reproductive health.

This collection of photos provides a glimpse into the struggles that women, girls, and vulnerable groups of people face during disasters across Bangladesh, as well as the support provided by UNFPA through our partners and donors to ensure no one is left behind.
