Regional Prepositioning Initiative - Emergencies
The Asia Pacific region is the most disaster prone in the world, experiencing frequent and intense natural disasters in addition to protracted crises. Building resilience through strengthening emergency preparedness and ensuring that women, adolescents and youth have continuous access to lifesaving sexual and reproductive health services are key priorities for the Regional Prepositioning Initiative.
The Phase 2 initiative targeted eleven priority countries that are most vulnerable to hazards and disasters- Fiji, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tonga, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu- and supported four more countries to respond to sudden onset disasters.
Over the four and a half years of the Regional Prepositioning Initiative Phase 2, US$ 1,744,123 worth of prepositioned supplies were distributed across 69 emergency responses in fifteen countries - Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Kiribati, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, Tonga and Vanuatu.
