With the proportion of older persons now increasing rapidly, Indonesia is becoming increasingly aware of the need to address the socio-economic consequences of this demographic change. This publication analyzes the emerging situation of population ageing, and identifies its impact to poverty, economy, health care services and living standards. It also highlights the positive role played by older persons in the society, particularly during the Aceh tsunami and Jogjakarta earthquake.
