To address the lack of reliable data on violence against women, the University of Melbourne—in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS), and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)—developed the kNOwVAWdata Course on the Measurement of Violence against Women. The kNOwVAWdata course aims to strengthen capacities, enabling participants to undertake research and prevalence studies on violence against women in ethical, safe and robust ways. The course also builds data literacy and skills to translate knowledge so that data can be used for evidence-based policy, programming and advocacy. 

Launched in 2018, the course is meant to run annually as a face-to-face 4-week course. However, due to travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, this course is now for the first time being offered online.
