Muthumali, the symbolic 7 billion baby in Sri Lanka, turned 1 on 31 October. Muthumali was born at 12.01am on 31 October 2011, the day world population reached 7 billion. This important milestone was symbolically marked in Sri Lanka with the birth of baby Muthumali at the Castle Street hospital in an event organized by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, with the participation of the First Lady. One year on, UNFPA country office in Sri Lanka paid a visit to Muthumali’s home to wish her well on her first birthday.
