KUALA LUMPUR—There is a pressing need to invest in girls in women, and to ensure their concerns including reproductive and sexual health are fully integrated in the post-2015 development framework, presenters at the Women Deliver 2013 conference (28-30 May) emphasized. Speakers including Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, Executive Director of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, stressed that family planning initiatives empowering women to manage their fertility are especially important for realizing human rights and sustainable development.
Over 4,500 delegates from 2,200 organizations working to address health and population issues attended the three-day gathering and heard the calls to promote the empowerment of women and girls, gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights.
