The 42nd G7 Summit in Ise-Shima, Japan in 2016 will be the first G7 Summit to be held since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The fundamental goals enshrined in the 2030 Agenda is “to ensure that all human beings can fulfill their potential in dignity and equality and in a healthy environment” and that "no one is left behind."

The Japan Parliamentarians Federation for Population (JPFP) and the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) with UNFPA support are co-organizing the GCPPD 2016 in cooperation with other regional parliamentarians’ fora and partners to raise three issues: (1) gender equality and women’s empowerment; (2) investing in youth; and (3) building active aging societies.

In addition, the GCPPD 2016 will discuss measures to combat infectious diseases and establish effective risk management systems, proposing that introducing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) throughout the world is a key instrument to tackle these challenges.

In so doing, the GCPPD 2016 aims to clarify the role of parliamentarians to strengthen global partnership, thereby soliciting high-level commitments and encouraging political action by global parliamentarians.
